How credits work in Staris Kids
Story Credits are how you create things in Staris Kids. You always see the cost before you confirm, right on the button. Reading is never charged — stories you have created or unlocked stay readable even if your subscription ends.
What each action costs
| What you do | Credits |
|---|---|
| Draft a new story (text) | 1.2 |
| Illustrate a story page — standard style | 1.4 per page |
| Illustrate a story page — premium style | 3.3 per page |
| Keep extra characters recognizable on a page (face-lock) | +0.6 per extra character (max +1.2) |
| Redraw a page illustration | the same as illustrating it: 1.4 standard, 3.3 premium |
| Rewrite a passage of text | 0.2 (1 credit = 5 rewrites) |
| Create a character (including from a photo) | 4 |
| Redraw a character's portrait | 2 |
| Unlock a series episode | 1 per page (minimum 1) |
| Finish/save a story, read, Quick Learn, sparks | Free |
Premium-style illustrations are part of the Standard and Premium plans. On Staris Basic, stories are illustrated in the standard style — a premium five-page story costs 17.7 credits, more than a whole month of Basic credits, so the option is not offered on that plan. We never swap a premium request for standard art without telling you — on Basic the premium style is simply unavailable until you upgrade.
If something doesn't work out
If a generation fails, the credits come back. When a request doesn't deliver a usable result, the credits for that attempt are restored to your balance automatically — you don't need to ask.
If it works but you don't love it, the credits are spent. AI results vary. A story or a picture that arrives with a wobble — an odd detail, or a character who looks a little different from the way they looked on the previous page — is still a finished generation, so it's charged. Redrawing or rewriting is a new request that costs credits again at the rate shown on the button, and a fresh attempt won't always be one you like better.
If something has gone properly wrong, tell us at support@cleverlabs.com.au — we can put credits back as a goodwill gesture, and your rights under consumer law are unaffected either way. See the Refund & Billing Policy §4c for the full rule.
Where credits come from
- Included credits — each monthly plan includes an allowance that refreshes on your billing date: Staris Basic — 12 credits each month; Staris Standard — 24 credits each month; Staris Premium — 36 credits each month. Included credits don't roll over, and they end when your subscription ends. If you move up to a bigger plan partway through a month, see Moving to a bigger plan below.
- Extra Credit packs (top-ups) — one-time purchases that stack on your balance: Glimmer (6 credits), Glow (12 credits) and Shine (24 credits).
The rules, in plain words
- Extra Credits never expire. They stay on your balance for as long as your account exists.
- You spend credits while subscribed. If your subscription ends, remaining Extra Credits are paused — never deleted. Resubscribe anytime and they work again.
- Credits have no cash value, can't be transferred or redeemed for money, and are for your account only (see the Terms of Use §5 for the legal details).
- If costs ever change, the change applies going forward only, with notice — it never reduces credits you already bought.
Moving to a bigger plan
Moving up starts your new plan straight away. Where the App Store applies the change immediately, it prorates your old plan — refunding the part you hadn't used — and charges the new one. Your billing date moves to the day you switch, and that's the day your credits refresh from then on.
Because your old plan has been prorated, the credits you can use on day one of the new plan may not be the plan's full monthly amount. You keep the credits you had paid for and hadn't spent. If you had already used credits from the part of your old plan that gets refunded, you may start the new plan with fewer than its standard monthly credits available.
Free trial credits don't come with you. If your trial included credits, any you haven't used stay with the trial — your paid plan starts with its own monthly allowance.
